Duties of the Patient Ombudsperson (Act on Patient Ombudspersons and Social Services Ombudspersons, 739/2023):

1) to provide guidance to patients on matters related to the application of the Act on the Status and Rights of Patients (785/1992), hereinafter referred to as the Patient Law;

2) to provide advice and, if necessary, assist the patients or their legal representative, family member, or another close person in making a complaint as referred to in Section 10 of the Patient Law;

3) to provide guidance on how to initiate a complaint, rectification request, appeal, claim for compensation regarding a patient injury or pharmaceutical injury, or any other matter related to a patient’s legal protection in healthcare with the competent authority;

4) to inform patients about their rights;

5) to gather information about patients’ inquiries and monitor the development of patients’ rights and status; and

6) to take action to promote and implement the patients’ rights in other ways as well, in addition to the duties specified in points 1–5.
